We do an episode where Oliver Queen meets the Laurel Lance of Earth-2, that's now on the table. The concept of death on the show is evolving and changing as we've already seen with Sara Lance. What we're finding as we're pushing into Season 5, the show has to evolve, has to change. For better or for worse, death is part of the show. Arrow much more so than Flash or, for a lot of reasons, it traffics in death. But certainly, we acknowledge that there's a difference. “I'm not going to put a qualitative judgment on whether it is more or less impactful. "We definitely recognize across all three shows that when we kill off a character, it means something different now,” Guggenheim said on the issue. With so many ways to bring a character back to life in the Arrowverse, there’s the chance that death doesn’t seem real and its impact is cheapened. It's good for the audience to be reminded of that and for our characters as well." This brings that reality back in a rude and brutal way. Death is a reality and with the Lazarus Pit and the possibility of coming back, it's easy to forget that these people are vigilantes, they're out on the street, they're doing dangerous things. We wanted to explore that and to really have everybody feel the impact of this loss, because it is significant, and we do feel like it is a game-changer, in a very sad way that we're losing a beloved character, but also, unfortunately, big moves like this open up big storytelling avenues and will force our characters to re-think their decisions and their objectives. The episodes we've written in the aftermath are devastating. We really wanted to make sure that we did it in a way that was very honorable and gave us space to honor all the characters' various reactions to it. It was a shocking thing for us to process and to write the aftermath. ![]() ![]() "There's no question that it is going to be shocking. "It's going to be huge and significant," she said. ![]() Executive producer Wendy Mericle explained just how big the impact will be on the characters.
